FreeCell Solitaire Game (or play Klondike Solitaire)

Your goal is to win! You win the game when you move all cards to the foundations (the 4 empty piles in the upper right corner). You must start each foundation with an Ace. Then you can place cards of the same suit in ascending order: Ace, 2, 3, 4, ..., 10, Jack, Queen and King.

It's kind of a big deal. One of the world's most popular Solitaire games, Freecell is a remarkable combination of strategy and simplicity. Nearly all games can be solved, but with only four open cells (and only ten minutes on the timer), can you beat the clock and win the game? 247 Games offers a fantastic version of FreeCell with many modes to choose from. Click on any of the games below to play directly in your browser. All of our FreeCell games are 100% free, all day, every day!

Cards are shuffled and dealt face up on the tableau (the 7 piles in the bottom of the screen). There is no waste or stock, but 4 free cells in the upper left corner.

  • Any top card can be played to the foundation of the same suit, in ascending order.
  • A top card from one pile can be moved to another, in alternate color and descending order: 9 of Spades, 8 of Hearts, 7 of Clubs...
  • Any top card may go to a free cell or an empty pile.
  • A free cell only contains one card at a time.

Only the top card is playable. “SuperMove” allows to transfer several ordered cards from one pile to another, using free cells and empty piles as intermediate locations for each single move.

One estimates that nearly every deal is solvable and thus winnable. Since all cards are face up, there is nothing to guess, just to show puzzle logic. Some games require more cleverness and others can be hard and tricky, so it's always a very pleasant and challenging occupation.

FreeCell Blue is different from many other versions of solitaire games, because all 52 cards are dealt face-up from the beginning. This lets you look at cards and plan your moves more thoroughly than in other solitaire games.

Layout

There are eight empty cells. The ones to the left are called Free Cells. They are used when you need to temporarily store some of the cards somewhere. Four cells to the right are called Home Cells. They are used to build foundations in ascending sequence from: the lowest rank (Ace) to the highest rank (King). The goal of the game is to remove all cards from the in-play area and complete foundations.

How to play

Start moving cards and building sequences in descending order of alternate colors. If you need to remove one of the cards, but you can’t add it to one of the sequences, place it in the free cell. While you build sequences, try to free Aces. As soon as you have at least one Ace available, you can start building foundations.

Using free cells

Try to keep free cells empty. Here’s why: as per rules, you are allowed to move only one card at a time. However, if you have empty free cells, you can move several cards. The number of cards you can move simultaneously is equal to the number of empty free cells plus one. E.g., if you have all four cells empty, you are allowed to move a sequence of five cards.
